Influence of lesion complexity and coating formulation on local coating penetration and downstream embolization after treatment with drug coated balloons (WP3)
Linnea Tscheuschner received a master’s degree in Life Science at the University of Hanover, Germany in 2022. Her master’s thesis explored the influence of particulate matter and physical activity on the development of atherosclerosis in mouse model in cooperation with the Biomedical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens. Throughout her scientific career she worked in various labs and biotech companies in Germany, Israel and the US and was awarded several scholarships for her outstanding academic performance. In her current Marie-Curie PhD position in Biomedical Engineering at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, she is investigating the underlying mechanisms of coating embolization during treatment with drug coated balloons as a mechanism for non-local drug delivery and systemic safety concern. Outside her academic pursuits, she is Head of Research in the German start-up “PNProtect” working on a medical device to minimize chemotherapy-induced side effects.

During her secondment at CBSET (September-October 2023) Linnea had the opportunity to both further her training in histopathology and experience a fully integrated translational research environment, that included participation in animal endovascular surgeries and instruction in the use of OCT, as well as direct interactions with device companies and CBSET researchers, histologists and pathologists. In addition to being trained in CBSET’s methods for microtoming stented arteries and histologically processing them, Linnea had the opportunity to review her slides with CBSETs experienced pathologists for staining quality and signs of inflammation.
Additionally, she organized and conducted a two-day online workshop for the DECODE program, with Dr. Rami Tzafriri as one of the top speakers. During Linnea’s stay in Boston, she got the opportunity to visit the BIOMEDevices conference, held in Boston yearly, to represent her start-up there.
