Summary: There are multiple factors that limit clinical benefits of drug-coated balloons (DCB) in treating peripheral atherosclerosis, calcium being one of them. It has been hypothesised that efficacy of DCB can be improved through treatment of the calcified plaque with orbital atherectomy. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of orbital atherectomy system (OAS) treatment on the paclitaxel distribution in cadaveric samples of human peripheral arteries with substantial calcified plaque burdens.
