SURESH MADDUR GANESAN, DVM, PhD, DACLAM – Clinical Veterinarian

CELEBRATING HIS FIRST YEAR AT CBSET...Dr. Ganesan joined CBSET in July 2023 as a Clinical Veterinarian. Previously, he was a Veterinarian/Lab Animal Resident at MIT's Biomedical Engineering lab, and Clinical Veterinarian/Staff Scientist at National Institutes of Health (NIH). At CBSET, Suresh is responsible for performing veterinary exams, developing protocols, and ensuring regulatory compliance with applicable agencies, in addition to caring for animals in the vivarium and training CBSET technical staff.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT DR. SURESH GANESAN

He has extensive expertise in both medical and lab animal research.

Dr. Ganesan holds a DVM and a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology. As a postdoctoral associate at the MIT biological engineering. , Dr. Ganesan ledlead in vivo and in vitro research that supported development of novel functional genetics tools for advancing drug discoveries in human malaria parasites and immunological diseases. He has extensive experience in developing CRISPR-based gene knock-in and knock-out studies. His core skills include rodent and large-animal surgery, infectious disease, and gene therapy. In addition, Dr. Ganesan is an expert at in vivo pharmacological models, biomarker identification, and PK/PD analysis. He has published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals including: Nature Communications, PNAS, Cell reports, and mBIO, among others. Additionally, he has presented multiple platform sessions and posters at national and international conferences and obtained several awards.

He is a diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM).

Dr. Ganesan obtained License to practice in US through PAVE program at Oklahoma State University and specialized in Lab Animal Medicine through residency in the Department of Comparative Medicine at MIT (2022). Prior to joining CBSET, he was a Clinical Veterinarian at NIH, supporting animal studies focused on neurodegenerative diseases, gene therapy, autoimmunity, aging, infectious diseases, and cancer models. He has experience with multiple lab animal species including rodents, ferrets, tree shrews, ruminants, swine, NHPs (both new world and old world), birds, and aquatics. As a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM), Dr. Ganesan is a board-certified veterinary specialist in the field of comparative medicine and is committed to assuring that research animals are provided the gold-standard in veterinary care.

He is an American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) member.

Dr. Ganesan is an enthusiastic member of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), an organization of professionals employed worldwide in academia, government, and private industry, who are dedicated to the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals, as well as the quality research that leads to scientific gains which that benefit people and animals.
