Necropsy Laboratory Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Pathology

REPORTS TO: Department Director

SUMMARY

Provide operational oversight for CBSET necropsy laboratory, facilities, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Personnel:
    • Coordinate Gross Pathology staff scheduling including day to day duties and assignments in necropsy laboratory and tissue trimming.
    • Oversee staff training including relevant SOP list, development of training modules, maintenance of training records.
    • Provide supervision, mentoring, and training for technicians.
  • Projects:
    • Ensure timely and quality generation of data in compliance with GLP guidelines and applicable regulations, with generation of appropriate documentation of deviations and incidents.
    • Oversee necropsy and gross tissue trimming portions of Pathology projects and integrate into Department of Pathology workflow.
      • Ensure prompt filing/digitalization of materials as needed (e.g., NRFs, logs, radiographs, photos).
      • Track status of tasks and deliverables, provide progress reports to Director of Pathology via weekly meetings, and to other parties as needed.
    • Assist department management, Histology Lab Supervisor and Director of Pathology with developing project timelines and modifying workflow priorities.
    • Guide development of novel techniques/processes.
  • Facility/Equipment:
    • Oversee equipment maintenance schedules.
    • Develop operational plans for procurement of pathology equipment.
  • Administrative:
    • Assist integration of Necropsy Lab functions with Pathology and other Departments.
    • With guidance from Pathologists and department management, communicate and coordinate with:
      • Study Directors and Sponsors as part of internal/CBSET projects
      • Contracts team regarding project feasibility and pricing of leads
      • Business Development regarding development of novel areas and sponsors
    • Review and develop SOPs and study protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Superlative oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and work effectively as a team member.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS) in science preferred.
  • Experience: > 7 years Pathology/ Histopathology laboratory experience required.  >3 years senior tech/management experience preferred.  Experience in GLPs or CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) required.
  • Certification/Licensure: Driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to perform laboratory procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards.
  • Ability to consistently lift and move at least 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Animal facility and laboratories with moderate noise possible and exposure to hazardous/noxious devices (e.g., needles, scalpel blades, etc.) and chemicals (e.g., anesthetic gases, formalin, alcohols, xylenes, etc.).
  • General office working conditions, with generally quiet noise conditions.
COMMENTS:
    • May require occasional duties on weekends and/or holidays.
    • May require occasional travel.
